Who ever you buy a TV from has to pass the address of the purchaser over to the licensing authorities.
I was realy annoyed recently when after buying a TV at Tesco I received a visit from Sky.The over bearing salesman even said that's why he was visiting me.
That's going a tad too far for me.

Seen many TV detector vans with darkened windows. Look at them with the sun behind them. All I've ever seen is rows of seat backs (mini-bus style) no detector equipment no gubbins, nothing like Star -trek's bridge just seat backs!
    Good for re-sale value perhaps.
Anyone here EVER been taken to court on the 'evidence' of a detector van? Please let me know. I DON'T HAVE A TV LICENCE (or TV receiving equipment).

From the link you just provided, you do not need a TV license for having a PC unless it has TV tuner equipment.

Thats correct, as long as they are not being broadcast live on TV at the same time.

Absolutely right and yet another example of the law being an !!!. We are one of the few countries that tax ownership of TVs and criminalise those who don't have one. TBH - given some of the carp I've seen on BBC (I hate cricket, tennis and golf, Wossy, Moyles and the like are just plain annoying), I really feel that they don't deserve the money sometimes. Then they go and produce some spectacular programmes (Planet Earth etc) and interesting stuff like documentaries and news and I have a change of heart.

They should leave the commercial rubbish to the commercial stations, keep the quality high and not worry about quantity over quality.

Sorry, should have gone to the rant board :)
Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though

I reckon I could name 30 countries with a TV license so it is hardly a few.

Just because YOU don't like a programme does not mean that it is rubbish. Personally I don't rate Planet Earth but I don't rant about it being funded from my license fee.

Generally speaking, people who rant about something that costs £2.75 per week don't know how lucky they are to have the BBC and its outlets (TV, radio and website) advertisment free.

I just pay by dd for my licence & that's that, when you move house you do have to tell them, otherwise you will get problems with reminders etc. You can pay online now and (I think) print your own licence. The way I see it is I listen to radio 2 most of the day, I watch F1 beeb coverage is ace so its well worth it to me.

I did tell them that was the point I was making "numbskulls"??
