DD monthly payment Atlantic

I've just the read the latest MoneySavingExpert email item about the difficulties people are having reducing overcharged direct debits.

I am supplied by Atlantic Gas & Electric and after a recent gas meter reading they increased my fixed monthly DD from £21 to £56. I was expecting an increase but felt this was too much so I added up my gas bills over the past twelve months, divided the result by 12 and came up with a figure of £40 per month. I rang Atlantic, explained I thought their DD amount was too high and gave them my calculation - they accepted my £40 per month was more reasonable and reduced it to that figure.

Likewise, when my electricity DD was set too high at £75 earlier this year causing my account to be in credit, I asked them to reduce it to £50 per month which they did without any problem. They also allowed me to offset my electricity credit against my gas debit.

Just wanted to let everyone know that in my experience Atlantic do listen to their customers and respond accordingly! :T
