Hi

I want to get an external hard drive for my laptop, about 200 - 300 GB, have been looking at various places but the choice seems to be massive.

Any recommendations on which one to get and what sort of cost I should be looking at (naturally the cheaper the better, but don't want to sacrifice quality!)

Thanks

Generally make sure it's USB 2.0 (and that your PC also has a USB 2.0 port too). Aside from that make sure it's the largest capacity and fastest access times/speeds. I use a FREECOM (From PCWORLD) and an CIBOX (From STAPLES) - the latter has a spec of .... Data buffer size From 2 to 8 Mb
    Rotation speed 7200rpm

Both are good units - but don't expect the same access performance from an external drive compared to your internal Hard drive. Externals are fine for backing up and storing images/video etc - but don't use them to run your operating system or applications from.

PC world were doing a good external HDD bargain for a 250gb around £90 I think. I seam to notice that Staples might be doing something around the £100 price point too.

Thanks for the info. May have a look at Amazon as they ship to the Channel Islands and I know their service is pretty good. Heard Ebuyer can be a bit of a problem if things go wrong.
