Hi all, I've recently had to buy one of those electric heaters because our radiators are useless.

It has 3 settings each using 350w. So we normaly have it on setting number 3 which would be using 350w x 3 = 1150w.

Can someone tell me how much this is going to cost per hour on the electric bill?

We're with Npower, I'm not sure which tarrif.

Thank you

Electricity varies from region to region. Price'll be about 9p or 10p (maybe up to 12p) per unit, ie per kWh. Your heater uses 1.15kW each hour so that'll be 11.5p (if 10p per unit) or 13.8p (if 12p per unit). (1.15 x price per unit)

BUT remember that's at most - the heater'll have a thermostat so it will not be blasting out 1.15kW each and every hour! (Mind you, with current temperatures outside and a decent sized room the heater may well have to work flat out just now!)

Plus, of course, there'll be a tier 1/standing charge component as well (about £4.50 per month)

Lots of people pay more that 12-13p a kwh - check your account. I would estimate using 15p per kwh including VAT and think of the heaters using about 17p an hour.
  • YOu mention your radiators are not working too well.

In what respect are they not working? perhaps this is something that could be easily remedied, bleeding them or balancing up the sytstem.

This would be cheaper to use the rads instead of these power hungry electric heaters.
