Hi bluepricey,
We went all inclusive to Cuba with Direct Holidays in 2006. We are a family of four. We stayed in Varadero and had a brilliant time. I would recommend a visit to Havanah.0 -
Have you tried the Holiday Place.
We went with them last year and they were the cheapest by far. We're in Scotland though and our schools finish at the end of June. I've found if we fly from english airports at the end of June/beginning of July before it's the english school holidays we get a really good price.
We went to Holguin then Havana, 2 adults 2 children AI for £27000 -
I went a couple of years back and thought it was fantastic. We went in late June and got a late deal (flew within 48 hours of booking). I guess with the credit crunch the holiday operators are probably 'block booking' less holidays in advance which means there will be less late deals in the summer.
You're definately doing the right thing taking the holiday in the July rather than September as that's the hurricane season and I'm lead to believe that it's not quite as fun as it sounds!
We stayed in the Cayos Cocos area. There were good points and bad points with the area. Good points were unspoilt beaches yet the bad points was that the only time you interacted with 'locals' was when you spoke to the staff. The area is all 'all inclusives' so you can't wander off to little bars to have a drink. Cayos Cocos is an island off the north coast of the country and the Cubans are only allowed there to work!
Make sure you take in a visit to Havana as to take a trip to Cuba and not to go there would be criminal.
Also, we were only able to go for one week due to work commitments but if you're able to do two weeks then it's definatly worth it (and it's not much more than just a one week holiday).

EDIT It was Airtours who we went with which is now part of the Tommy Cook group. Before booking any hotels check out reports on sites such as Trip Advisor but take them with a pinch of salt as people are a lot more likely to leave a bad report than a good one for some reason.0
