Help with nail polish on leather.

Options
My ds decided he was going to play with my nail polishes and one has leaked a little onto my new leather sofa.

How do I get it off? Would it be ok to use nail polish remover on leather? It is dried out as I didn't notice it when it was done, it is a fairly small amount.

I need some help please before I get lynched!! :o

You might have some problems, the only thing i can find about removing nail varnish is acetone (like nail varnish remover) but this can also remove the colour too, what i would do is try a patch somewhere you cant see and basically see if it does remove any colour from your sofa.

If not, it's surprising how many things soften when covered in oil... then it might just gently scrape off with a fingernail or an old credit card type thing.

Thankyou so much to the both of you. :A

I think I will try the oil first as it is gentler. And I will be keeping the nail varnishes well away in future!!

Nail varnish remover will do it, though you have to be careful and tbh it sounds a bit dodgy.

  • I would apply the remover with a cotton bud and dab only on the nail varnish until it disappears - hopefully keep any damage to the leather colour to a minimum.

    Hi mae,

Oil is also suggested on this older thread and might keep damage to the colour to a minimum: Help with nail polish on leather.
