Not sure about that, bit I was told by a Copper that I should have a "Beware of the Dogs" sign as otherwise I could be sued if my dog munched a burgler.
Well now I'm confused because I'd read somewhere (and I can't find a flippin' reference) that you could be sued if you did put up a notice and then the dog snacked on a intruder because you were aware that the dogs may be 'a little lively' and you did nothing to protect the public.
Meh - Copper trumps PW's sieve-like memory
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Bit off topic (Sorry OP) but what I was told was that a Guard Dog sign could only be displayed if I had the proper license, thinking about it the license could have referred to either the handler or the dog.
I was also told that a Caution/Beware, dogs may bite type sign could open me up being sued as I would have already admitted that I knew that my dogs could bite someone! I eventually settled for a sign that says Caution, Loose Dogs. This is on a 7ft locked back gate as I had an incident with a window cleaner who despite being warned not to go round the back unless I was there used his ladder to hop over the gate. I got a frantic call from him saying where was I? How long before I got home? Silly S*D but if my dogs had bitten him (and the JRT, not the rottie would have if he'd come down the ladder) I could have been reported under the DDA!
Stupid really that we need to be so careful......rightly or wrongly I believe that if someone enters a locked privately owned area without invitation or permission that it should be at heir own risk.0 -
In your situation I would call and speak to your local NFU agent ( not the freefone call centre) and see if they could tailor a policy for you.
I would imagine that the standard insurance policies wouldn't want to cover your sons dog as there must be a much higher risk of a 3rd party public liability claim against a patrol/guard dog.
Just out of curiosity:o doesn't a guard dog have to be licensed? Or is it different if they only patrol with a handler? I remember being warned that I couldn't have a "caution" sign on my back gate only a sign saying "loose dogs".
HTH
My son has to be licenced by the Security Industry Association and when the dog starts work he will have to be registered as a security dog. He will then not be allowed off lead in public places.
With regard to the sign we have a sign approved by a high court judge. It says ' caution do not enter a large dogs may be roaming free. We were advised that any other sigh displayed could be open to loop holes in the law.
Hope this answers your question and the information may be some help to others.W/R 17pRoadkill #56 £0.47

Also try saberframe, they do dogs on the dangerous dogs register, but they may do guard dogs too.0
