sold an item on amazon marketplace, need help

I recently sold an item on the amazon marketplace. I did not realise at the time of the listing that I had put it in the wrong category - until the item was bought (on 8th, monday).

I contacted the seller the same day informing of this and asked him whether he wanted a refund on continue with the sale. I had not heard from him and gave him a refund this morning. I now have an email from the buyer saying he had replied to me and that he still wanted the item regardless.

I am now stuck and don't know what to do. I am a newbie on the marketplace. Am i right to think I still going to be charged the selling fees? The item was over £100 so final fees is almost £17. Can anyone help me?

I assume that the buyer knew what he was buying (he can obviously read), so I wouldn't have issued a refund until they had contacted you first, that was a bit silly really. Unless they can pay again by paypal, or they can send a cheque, I guess that you'd have to relist it to get paid and absorb the fees again.

  • I pretty sure that if you've refunded the buyer you won't be charged a seller fee by Amazon, as it will be the whole amount that had been credited to you (your takings plus the postage credit minus Amazon fees) which is refunded to Amazon, who then refund the buyer the item price plus postage. At least I think so...!

    So let's clarify:-

You sold item.....refunded buyer before posting?...buyer has since (or before) said they would still like it?

Since you have refunded you will have no fees to pay.

If buyer still wants it then relist perhaps with a few quid off for the hassle? Time it so that you are both online at the time and no one else (hopefully) can buy it.

Refunding the seller will have cancelled your fees.

Just re-list the item via your closed items page and ask the buyer to buy it again, apologising for the inconvinience.
  • Be very careful when listing on Amazon that you do not list in the incorrect category. If you have a 'clued up' buyer they may know that Amazon may refund the buyer for an item that is materially different without requiring it to be returned to the seller.
