Gatwick Thameslink Engineering
Chose to fly from Gatwick for a 9 day break on Saturday.
We usually go from West Hampstead to Gatwick direct but discovered today that there are engineering works starting now for about 3 years and there are no direct hourly trains through London any more.
Getting there is not a problem but we fly back at 23:40 and by the time we get the baggage there will be no more trains to London Bridge so it's the Express to Victoria and then an expensive taxi.
First Connect have made no effort to replace the hourly direct service through the night at all. One of the three Customer Care people who eventually cut the phone off even started to make up a fictitious train service from Victoria to West Hampstead for us.
Useless.

Hi
If you really want to save money you can consider a night bus or 24 hour bus , then take a mini cab to where you live from the bus stop.
N16 from Victoria every 20 mins then cab or 139 but from Trafalgar sq. see tfl.gov website.
Or ring tfl travel advisors they may have some ideas.
I haven't been on a night bus for years , don't know if they are safe especially if you have luggage and valuable docs.
Probably not worth the effort, but is an option.

Actually, N52 or N16 might be useful. Depends how we feel after a 4 hour flight from Tenerife....0
