Motorbike liciense

Hi all :) just after some advice. My husband would like to complete his full bike liciense some time next year, he already had a full car liciense, and used to ride on a CBT but this has ran out now. But due to this only lasting 2 years it seems a waste not to do full license this time. Then it can last forever!

Does anyone know if you have passed car license theory do you have to take a separate motorbike theory?

Also any good places to take direct access course - we live Bolton, Manchester way?

  • Hi, yes you have to do the new car/bike theory test again, they are both the same (I know stupid)

I did my CBT at http://www.cheshiremotorcycletraining.co.uk/

    £110

Was very and made it easy, I had never rided a bike before. Think his name is bill

They do a DAS which guarantees a pass (but check small print)

If you do speak to these tell them Paul Garratt recomended them, brother of Ian Garratt. He will know us

Thanks for that, it is daft that you have to do your theory again as my husband has a full car liciense and has already completed it! People just making more money eh? never mind, at least i know to get this done first before hand:)

I think i will get him a theory book from shop for one of his Christmas prezzies and book him in it in January as a suprise! haha

He wanted to get his full bike liciense by the end of next yr, so i guess ill av some saving up to do. Thanks for the link, ill save it to my favourites.

    Cheers

Bike theory asks different question to car theory. It is worth noting that the bike test will change soon, so now is a really good time to do it as the new test is much more involved and more expensive.

    Useful booklet here - http://ww.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/cyclingandmotorcycling/mopedsandmotorcyclesroutesto4640

I did my Bike Theory Test a couple of years ago and it was definately different to the car test. The questions were bike related for a start.

just checked and the fee for the theory, it is £30.00 now! i guess ill have to wait till i get paid in January to book it :( it asks what kind of theory test you want, i presume it is motorbike cat A and P????

This was on the drop down list, but then at the bottom of the list it said passenger??? confused?

I prsumes once you done your direct access you would be able to carry passenger on bike?

    Thanks
  • I did my bike theory test last Sat and can't remember what choices were on the booking form. Would presume it's the A & P one, but if I was you I'd call DSA and check.

As for the pillion thing - you definitely need to pass a test to carry a passenger. Riding on a CBT restricts you to riding on non-motorway roads, no pillion, a 125cc engine and with L-plates.

The govt are threatening to change the motorbike test from March (already delayed this since last Sept) but doesn't look like it will go through as they have recently issued another consultation document about it.

Me and the hubby are still planning on doing our DAS before March though
