I'd value any thoughts or comment please. I bought a DVD recorder 3 months ago. It states in the manual the all common formats of disc are supported for recording and play back including DVD +/- RW. I've got about half a dozen +RW discs that I've recorded off the telly to watch later. Trouble is they wont play. I've called Samsung and the cust serv operator tells me I should be using -RW. I've pointed out that the manual clearly states +RW is fine, but he insists the "Samsung recommend -RW only". I did ask where it said this in the manual - he repeated -RW etc. I went on to suggest that if the machine wont handle +RW (as per the manual) then perhaps they are in breach of the Sale of Goods Act. At which point he put me on hold - and the line went dead about a minute later. No where in the manual does it state anything about -RW being the preferred format. So I've got a machine that wont play back. I've just sent an email of complaint to Samsung via their website, but I don't know what else to do?
Any thoughts out there?

if it says so on the box, you have good cause to complain. can you contact the shop where ought for an exchange / refund?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Call Consumer Direct, they should be able to tell you what exactly you need to do. Good lucknothing to see here, move along...0

It's a misdescription. I would imagine that the seller should either swap it for another one that does play the discs or lower the price. You wont be entitled by law to a refund unless specific circumstances apply, such as not having a reasonable opportunity to test the item.
And it is for the seller to sort this out, not the manufacturer. The seller is liable for descriptions given on goods they sell, even if someone else attaches that description.0 -
how does this relate to west london?0

I'm having similar probs.
Transferred home movies onto a TOshiba HDD/DVD Recorder which supports all formats.
But I can only transfer the movies from the HDD onto -RW disks, not the cheaper -R discs!!!
Keeps bringing up a 'disc error'
So annoying, as -RW costs so much.
It is a deceptive description IMO0
