I may have been wrong about the £106 per week being taxed. My wife WAS taxed last month on it, but we've since read that it should be free of Tax & NI. She's going to call her company and the IR today to find out.0

Thanks loads for the info guys.
Really need to sort finances, as the cut will be a shock and not sure if we would be able to pay debts.
LWhat's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave :mad:0 -

Can anyone confirm whether the April 2007 change is definately going to happen? I had heard of it being talked about but didnt know whether it was definate or not. I am desparate for no.2 and hunbbie and I had agreed to start trying in June, however as no.1 was unplanned I am asuming there is a high possibility I may get pregnant straightaway therefore I would probably wait until July before getting "serious" to avoid a March baby and missing out on 3 months pay!Me debt free thanks to MSE :T0

Hi Katglasgow,
Found the link to the DTI announcement last year, though still nothing about SMP rates - maybe I dreamt that bit!

Also, found confirmation that SMP is subject to tax & NI

Hi
I'm working full time (40 hours per week) and part time (on av 5 hours per week) and have been working 2 1/2 years and 1 year respectively would i get SMP at 90% first 6 weeks and £106 per week for remaining 20 weeks from both jobs?0 -
I to had ccs before my maternity leave, but dont make the mistake that ive done, live on ccs for 6 months

if you fall pregnant in the summer chances are you will still be on maternity leave at christmas, how will you buy extra pressies?, i made the mistake of putting christmas on ccs, stupid i now know, because after 6 months off it isnt easy to leave baby so i have now took the desicion and do part time. Only now im having to go down the cccs route because of the debt we are in.
So take advice and try and get cards cleared, cut up and save like mad because these bundles of joy aint cheap!!
Good luck for your day, and remember live each day has its your last and each night has its your first.

No, only your main job. SMP can be reclaimed from the goverment by your employer but the goverment isn't that daft (!) they only pay it once.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
