  • The Sony Bravia won best buy on The Gadget Show Xmas proggy. I have a 40" and am well pleased with it. Don't buy the old "S" engine though. The one you have listed is a "V" engine.

Our TV expired on Saturday. I spent an hour on the net and got sick and tired of looking and trying to take it all in. I eventually thought the Sony in your thread was the one I wanted, but at almost £500 it was a bit steep at this time of year and most places I tried were out of stock as I wanted to pick it up during the day.

Quick trip to Makro and I picked up a Sony Bravia for less than £300. Picture on analogue and freeview (even with a 25 year old aerial) and sound are excellent.

Does anyone know whether any of these TVs has a USB port so you can show photos? We have been looking for a 32" TV but can't find one with this spec. for much less than £500.

Was the price not £299 exc VAT. As went to makro last week and it was at that price so works to be around to be £350 - Has it gone down? what was the total price you paid inc VAT as if it was £300 for the 4000 version i might pop down again as was £279 exc VAT for 3000 version

I've just bought a Panasonic TX-32LXD85 from Argos for £485.00. I was going to go for the TX-32LXD80 for £85.00 less but I have read so many good things online about the 100hz picture on the 85 that I decided to spend the extra money. I am sooooo glad I did (although I obviously don't have the cheaper TV to compare it to). I am amazed by the picture on this not too expensive TV. I have a 26" Bush LCD TV that I paid £349 for about two years ago and I knew on the day I plugged it in that it was rubbish, but put up with it. The new TV is just amazing in comparison. I have a cheap DVD player with HD upscaling attached to it and the quality of the picture, via HDMI, is brilliant to me, even on lowish quality programmes I have downloaded.

After my experience with the Bush TV and seeing so many badly set up TVs in electrical shops (Comet, Currys, etc) I was a bit nervous about spending so much on a new one, but I'm very, very happy with it. I did consider a Sony Bravia for a while but the reviews online were so mixed that I wasn't willing to part with money for it. Part of that probably came from a bad experience with a Sony HD recorder that I had a few years ago. That HD recorder was replaced with a Panasonic so I suppose I was already on the side of Panasonic before I bought my TV. One silly little thing I really like about the new TV is that because it is linked to the HD recorder when I put the TV onto standby with the remote, it also puts the HD recorder on standby.

One thing I did, and apologies if I'm stating the obvious, was to put the model number and "review" into a google search. I do this with nearly everything I buy that is going to cost more than a tenner. For example, in your case I would put "kdl32v4000u review" (without the quotes) into the google box and click on a few of the results. If I'd done this with the Bush TV I now have the misfortune to own I might have either saved some money or at least bought something a lot better!
