Would you consider emigrating if the recession gets really bad here in the UK?

I've lived/worked in too many countries to name. However, I have never truly emigrated. I could never imagine breaking all links with the UK until such time my folks have departed this mortal coil.

The above notwithstanding, our Plan B if the excrement hits the propeller is to go and live in S.E. Asia for a a while, due to the low cost of living there.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

In essence, that is why we are here now I guess. :( Ultimately we- more I suppose- feel more at home in England than anywhere else, but if Britain becoms something unrecognisable will that b the same? :( I dunno.

On the plus side, if we do leave I've heard they let you in to visit somtimes ;):o

I sincerely hope that things don't get as bad as I imagine they might, but if they do, then being in a rural area of GB would be my choice.

From what I've read, in places where the economy has gone to the dogs, the people in villages do best for basics, like food. It's already common for British rural dwellers to set up local networks for sharing materials & skills, so this would just be a natural development.

(also available corporate law, see mr lostinrates)"

  • My wife has a Brazilian....oops I mean is a Brazilian.

Being the 'B'razil in the so called BRIC countries (up & coming), if thing went totally Pete Tong, I dare say we'd hit the eject button & go & live over there for a while. It won't be too bad....best babes in the world (hey, what's a man to look at)

We are, reluctantly, not dismissing it as an option. :(

Thats the underlying mood down here on Tha Wharf too. This country is getting us down... Mr P would go in a flash but I'm very close to my family and it would be a wrench.

I dont know where we'd go either - as other have stated its a global situation and despite Peter Andre's assumptions to the contrary, everywhere is going to be affected to some extent.

I'd love to live somewhere hot where people sit out on verandas all night eating cheese and drinking wine with their extended families, but then my extended family would still be in the UK so its a pipe dream. That or Scandinavia. They've got it sorted with their cleanliness and order and volvos...

Hot day and night in Greece at the moment...
  • About 2 years ago I was seriously considering emigrating from the UK to Germany but didn't have the bottle to do so.

Now I'm thinking about it again. I consider Germany to be the relatively undiscovered gem of Europe or perhaps even the world. The quality of life and public services is very high.
