Somewhere to propose in London

Looking for suitably lovely choice of location where I can propose to my better half in the next month or so. If the weather was better it would be champagne picnic on Hampstead Heath but I doubt we are in for many warm days in Dec/Jan.

Suggestions would be welcome.

  • looking for somewhere for dinner? what kind of budget? do you want it somewhere private (the skating rink at somerset house would be good, but a little 'public' for me!)

don't know if this website will help with ideas:

Do you really want the story of your proposal to include a suggestion by a stranger on a money saving forum?
  • Quote - i think its fine to ask people for advice. I imagine he wants it to be perfect, at the end of the day people here will only make suggestions he can choose to select one or his own idea and will tailor it to them as a couple! Sheesh.

Mr Rush - what about a boat ride with dinner? Do you have any favourite spots as a couple? First date? Where you met? somewhere with good memories that you can always go back to if you want :)

    MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Weddings and Anniversaries board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

There's bound to be ideas there already!

    Ah... how sweet!

It depends on what kind of a place you are looking for. Personally, when I was about to propose to my OH & was going to do it in London, I was going to go to the lake at Kew Gardens, even in the winter it is charming & romantic!

A couple of other places I can think of are:

    The top of Primrose Hill

Alexandra Palace (beautiful views all over London & lots of secluded snuggle spots and you can go iceskating too!)

    Greenwich, it's very pretty

    Tower Bridge, also beautiful

Also LilMissEmmyLou's idea of doing it on a boat is lovely too (mind you I'm biased, I lived on a boat!)

If you tell us a bit more, you could help us inspire you with ideas! What things do you like? What kind of places would you go to?
nothing to see here, move along...

I'm sure that I've read somewhere that the most wished-for London proposal location (i.e. the place where most women would like to be proposed to...) is Albert Bridge. For those who don't know it, it is a very "pretty" bridge, painted in pastel colours (pink/blue/green/lemon) and covered in lights at night - its quite fairytale, and always reminds me of the castle at Disney (not that its castle-shaped, you understand, but it is very pretty, so has that magical quality!).

Its also at one end of Battersea Park, so if you wanted to have a picnic (I'm thinking flask of soup/coffee in the winter!) you could in nice surroundings - they also have a cafe by the boating lake which does a good hot chocolate!!

There are also some nice restaurants and pubs nearby if you prefer to celebrate in the warm... ;)

I'm sure that she'll love it wherever you decide! :D

    Yay - how exciting!

OH proposed to me in London on Valentines Day. We had gone for a lovely dinner, and on the way back to Charing Cross, we stopped off at Trafalgar Square and he proposed by one of the fountains :)
  • piglett i did think of that place but ive SO never known the name of it lol - i always refer to it in my friends terms of "oh what a bonny bridge"...so thanks for the name :D
  • my h2b proposed to me last december in London - it was in the Ice Bar, it was really nice and really special especially as I didn't expect him to do it in a public place but saying that nobody seemed to notice anyway cos everyone is in awe of the ice bar and the ice tables and the ice chairs and the ice glasses etc etc
