switching accounts with an overdraft

hi, i don't no if this is in the right place but basically i have a 1,ooo overdraft i want to get down and get back in the black ,
how does it work if i switch to a 0% account how do i reduce my debt and i am so confused !!
my oh and i would like to have a joint account and have all our money paid into it ,he also has an overdraft so more oney in one pot
can anyone help with advice??
