DVD Player connection

:confused:Just bought a new dvd player and have a problem connecting it to our tv.
Using a scart lead, I've connected everything up. When I switch the tv on, the dvd player takes over and I get the DVD loading picture on av1 instead of the tv picture on channel 1. If I turn the dvd player off, I lose the tv picture and just have sound only.
To watch tv channels I have to have the dvd player turned on all the time which seems wrong to me.
Any advice would be appreciated as it's driving me up the wall now...
Thanks

  • Is the only connection from the DVD player through the SCART to the TV?

How do you receive your TV channels? Straight from an aerial, through a freeview box, through built in freeview in the TV?

  • The scart lead is the only connection to the tv and the tv channels are received through a satelite dish
  • So you only have 1 scart to the TV?

How are you connecting the cable from the dish?

Is it just a DVD player or is it a DVD recorder?

Normal if you have a av equipment connected to tv and switch it on when tv is on it will switch to the scart, that is what its meant to do.

To avoid this dont turn dvd player on when tv is on. Or you could just press button on your remote to get to the channel example 1 BBC1 or if its got freeview it will be DTV or something like that
