Lloyds make me mad!

Just wanted to vent about this one!
Having been a credit card tart for nearly two years, I've gotten fairly good at spotting good deals and traps.
My Tesco card deal is due to end in Jan. Started looking for a new one to replace it in November. Found that as a Lloyds customer I can get their Platinum card (online only) 0% on balance transfers for 14 months, stating that you must transfer the balance within the first 6 weeks of opening the account. Only catch is you have to make a minimum spend on the card of £100 within the first 3 months.
No problem right?- I opened the account then spent just over £100 on it the first week. At the end of first month I call up, clear the £100 balance. Wait a few days make sure my balance is £0 then ask to transfer balance. They tell me they "can offer me 0% on BT for 12 months". I said no as I signed up to 14 month deal. He tried telling me that I had to transfer at time of opening account. I argued this was stupid as if I did that I would have to pay interest on the £100 minimum spend (something like 29%!!!) for 14 months- who would do that? He tried telling me that I would have to pay interest on it no matter how I did it??!! I explained my theory of spend money, clear money, then transfer balance. He said I wasn't allowed to do this (but couldn't give me a reason why). At this point I suggested he speak to his supervisor about this. 5 mins later he's back on the phone telling me that they will be able to "offer" me the 14 month deal- like THEY were doing ME a favour! This was the deal I agreed to.
Why do they make it so you have to know your rights inside out to get on in this world??!!
