Special 5% rate from ING Direct for new customers

I've just searched ING Direct through Google and there's a special promotion on where you will get 5% for Instant Access accounts (incl 1% bonus for first 12 months). I've called their lines (open until 11pm) and sure enough - it's for real. The code to enter in the promotions box is ACQ012 (is specifically to do with google search). Seems brilliant - but they won't let you qualify if you've even requested info from them in the past apparently - only if you're new. Pretty sure they'll take it down soonish so suggest you get your skates on.:j

I got a different one on my google search:
Promotions code ACQ011
5.25% for the first 6 months, then onto the variable rate, currently 2.72%, which would work out as 4.06% AER for the whole year. New customers only.
I don't know if you can just withdraw your money after the initial 6 months and close the account.

They are the last people I would save with now if I am honest, as usual they exclude loyal customers and they operate under the passport scheme so if in the unlikely event that they get into trouble you have to rely on them for compensation, we were lucky with Icesave (also the passport scheme) in that the UK government stepped in, they did not have to and can we be 100% sure they would again?
ING do not have a good record in paying decent rates, you can bet your life that they are trying to draw in a lot of new accounts with this 'taster' before they slash rates!0 -
Thanks for that. I always check they are fully covered under the FSCS before I apply but glad you brought it to my attention.0

Odd, my google search revealed the ACQ012 code but when i try to apply it says not a valid code.0

Don't get me wrong, I don't like ING for their past record, they are very tardy in increasing rates when they are rising elsewhere yet brilliant at reducing rates when others don't but I don't think their security can really be compared to the likes of Icesave but having been in the deep end with Icesave; standing to have lost a lot of money I am not keen on taking a risk with the passport system now!
