Yes, but they've been wrong since 2004 (CPI above target on their 2 year horizon for 2006-2008), so whether they'll be any better going forward remains to be seen.

BOE target is 2% +/- 1%, not less than 2%, so in 2006 and 2007 was within their target range

12 months. Recovery is on the way, stock market has bottomed and green shoots are showing
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Weeds.... new lows by May next year, though having said that, it is not impossible that interest rate could be moving up by the end of next year

indeed, but base rate is set off expectations of inflation in 2 years time, not the current inflation
  • They will rise only once the treasury can no longer sell gilts........that will occur when investors no longer have confidence that the treasury will be able to pay the interest due on all the gilts they have sold so far...i think this could be pretty soon......oh.....and when all us fools withdraw our monies we have invested in banks and building societies.......after all, what is the point of us keeping our savings in banks/building societies earning paltry returns, when all the time there is a risk of them going bust?

Forgive my ignorance, but wont all the increasing levels of debt force inflation at a certain point. Peter has to pay the piper sometime, does he not?

not if there is fiscal and monetary tightening once the recovery is underway - otherwise, yes
