rip off Currys

watch currys' HDMI lead ploy, they charged my neighbour £99, you can get an ok one for a fiver or less,
Digital signals don't really need expensive connections, binary 0 or 1 remain the same whatever the lead quality, just as long as the signal gets from one end to the other.0 -
One thing you have to bear in mind with any high street retailer at present, they buy stock from abroad where its either priced in Euro's or Dollars, unfortunately the way the pound is behaving at present (due to the political climate) a lot of electronic equipment in particular is rising in price daily.
Whilst I'm not defending anyone because I don't know the full story i have seen photographic equipment prices going up and down like the proverbial yoyo (I run a photographic website so I keep an eye on photographic equipment)
Retailers are desperate for our money so the price trend is downward but the Pound V Euro exchange rate means that cannot last for much longer (IMHO)0 -
Yes curry's, dixon's comet etc have the walk of commission or whatever it's called. basically once you have bought your TV, you taken back to the till by the sales person down a route where the accessory's are and they sell their soul on the £99 hdmi lead, tv stands etc.
I remember last year a sales guy from one of the stores was on here saying on how they are bullied into this by the manager!!
Just for your info and set it straight, yes a cheap hdmi lead is the same as a £99 hdmi lead for 98% of us, but the more expensive, better made ones DO make a difference to those that have high end systems that only techno geeks will see the difference, but it is there all the same0 -
With regards to price increases and sale items. Here is the law
A retailer must display an item for a period of 28 Days at a higher proce for it to display a sale sign. For example. If a TV is £100. They can increase the price to £150 for 28 days and then put a sale sign saying Was £150 Now £100
Therefore they only have to display the higher price for 28 Days0 -
madnut - I think you forgot to add "in one of their stores". I remember reading a few years ago that some companies put the highest price stickers on items in stores where they knew that realistically they had no chance of selling them at that price, but it meant they were within the law. If they were advertising it for £400 in one store in, say, South Wales, they could then legally advertise it, 28 days later, in a store in London at £300 with a 25% off sticker. The converse also applies - over-inflate the price in London so they can advertise it as reduced in the rest of the country.
No offence intended to anyone in South Wales - I lived there for a few years and only used it as an example because I know the wages are a lot lower than in London so there isn't as much spare money flying around.

I bought a game from currys the other day and then found it cheaper on the currys entertainment website! I emailed them about it but received no reply - charming!0

I just bought a laptop from them (day before yesterday) online, it was the one advertised on tv for £292 and was a great buy. Went through checkout and got my confirmation, delivery 5-7days etc etc. Today i got an email telling me its out of stock and i'll get a refund "soon" but i could "call to talk to a sales rep to discuss further options" - in other words buy a more expensive laptop - i've looked on their site and everything else is well over my budget. I checked dixons and pc world within a 25 mile radius of stores and none have it in stock but they just advertised it on TV. I smell a rat and i'm furious they still have my money so i can't go buy another one yet til they get their fingers out!! Never again!!!0

i have heard from a friend that currys are in danger of going bust due to a huge lost last year, is this true0

Would never use curry's or Dixon's even if it was cheaper for an item. Very poor customer service.
