Just had a few days off work and discovered that some nosey people at work have been looking at my microsoft outlook mail box. At my work we dont have passwords on our mail box's.
Is there any way I can put a password on my mail box with out the need for the IT administrator to do it. We use outlook 2000 at work.

If its your work mail box, should there be anything on there that other employees shouldn't read.
What does your company IT policy say about the e-mail accounts?0 -

Yes it could have your salary reviews and things like that and also you may manage people and have emails relating to other on it.
Ask your administrators for a password and then change it - you could subtly mention that your mails have been read
If you do have a password and it is not asking for it - check that you are not
running in Cached Exchange Mode0 -

Our e-mail accounts of that nature are passworded. The general office accounts are not so they can be viewed by any member of staff.
I must admit, I took it for granted that an employee with an open access mailbox was not receiving confidential or sensitive mail through it.0 -

I think it could be a case of IT being lazy0 -
email is protected by the DPA so nobody can read it unless there's a valid and legal reason. If you're using a pst folder then go into control panel, mail and you can password protect the pst file from in there.
If you use exchange create a pst on your local machine, password protect it and move personal mail into there.0 -
If you are logging into a domain to receive your email, you should be able to right click on your inbox, and enable or deny others to see your inbox etc.. By default, others shouldn't normally have rights to see your mail, but if they have sneaked onto your PC, and given themselves read/editor rights etc, then they will be able to see your mail until you remove the rights. If that is the cause, lock your PC when you walk away from the desk. (CTRL ALT DEL).., and remove the rights by right clicking..
If everyone can see your mail by default, Gizmo is right, that is poor IT practice..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
