Routers

There's something that's been bugging me for a while. Most routers, well all routers come with some sort of firewall whether it be NAT or a firewall. I know they provide inbound protection but what about outbound protection?

Interesting question, what sort of outbound protection, blocking certain ports?

Really depends on the router and/or firewall built-in - You can build rules which block specific outgoing ports on a hardware firewall the same as inbound.

    I have a D-link DSL-2640B.

I've had a look in the setup of it, under firewall & DMZ it has these options:

Enable DOS and Portscan Protection :
    SYN attack :
    FIN/URG/PSH attack :
    Ping Attack :
    Xmas Tree attack :
    TCP reset attack :
    Null scanning attack :
    Ping of Death attack :
    SYN/RST SYN/FIN attack :

I'm wondering if that would give me the same protection as say any other in/outbound firewall. I can make outbound filters which ask for a Protocol, would this mean that unless the Protocol is stated it's automatically blocked? e.g if a virus tried to call home
