Evening all.
I bought my daughter a bluetooth dongle for Christmas, so that she could transfer pictures from PC to her phone.
Whilst I never managed to successfully set this up, in trying to figure it out I did manage to get my own phone to link to Outlook on my PC (through ActiveSynch) via bluetooth, having found a step-by-step guide on the web.
My problem is that I have now lost the ability to link via the USB cable - I'd rather just plug the phone in, than mess about pressing buttons, and in any case, I use the USB cable to power up the phone.
Whenever I plug in the USB cable, the PC does not recognise it and I get an error message. I've tried it in other USB ports, and tried swapping a webcam in to the phone's port, and it's definitely the device/cable that's the problem, not the port. I've reinstalled ActiveSynch, thinking that this would include USB drivers, but that hasn't worked. I've done a system restore to before I ever tinkered with the bluetooth, but that hasn't worked. I've even swapped to a different USB/mini-USB cable, but that hasn't worked.
Any suggestions, before my phone battery goes dead??

If you've tried other USB items in the USB ports and they have worked Ok, and you have tried other USB/mini cables and they have not resolved the problem then the most suspect thing will be what the USB cable is being plugged into....and in your case its the phone.
There is a very high possibility that the problem lies with a fault on the phone, however; to verify this the easiest option is to take the cables and phone to a friends house and plug it into their computer....you don't need to load software, you just want to confirm if thier computer will recognise it.Welcome, rogerramjet.

Thanks for that.
I managed to find instructions to do a hard reboot for my phone on the web, and that has done the trick.
Now I've just got to figure out how to reset everything to how I had it before...0
