Cost to re-point a chimney

Hi,

I was quoted £280 plus VAT to repoint a chimney and reset a wonky pot. Does this sound reasonable? I thought it seemed quite a lot.

The scaffolding is already up.

Thanks
Lisa

If it helps for comparison we've just paid 480 for a new pot, having the top of the chimney flaunched over, new register plate installed and stove fitted.

I think the price is reasonable - does it include access (scaffolding) or anything?

I'd be amazed if that includes scaffolding, I was given a price of £500 just for the scaffolding!

Some companies do have their own scaffolding, and some hire it, then again you'll still get a lot of people who will just use ladders.

    Hi,

The scaffolding is already up as we are having the chimney lined, that cost us £550 for 4 weeks. When they have lined the chimney the top 2 layers of bricks have come loose and need fixing.

Luckily my next door neighbours nephew is a brickie and is going to do the work for us for £100. Thats more the price I was looking for!

    Thanks for all you advice!

Sounds very reasonable to me. Of course depends on the amount of pointing and the quality of the workmanship. Was the chap recommended?
