Car Sratched
Hi - Parked my 5 series silver car in a shopping centre and someone deliberately strached the left side of it all the way from the front to the back.
It looks like a irregular line all the way across, deep in some places.
If i claim on my insurance policy i have to pay excess of £300.
Planning to get quote of BMW and other local garages.
It is still under BMW warranty.
Any suggestions please.

Depending on the quotes, I would expect it to be cheaper overall to pay to have the repairs as you have your no claims bonus and increase in your policy price to factor in as well.0

i think the only options are to claim off the insurance,or pay out of your own pocket.
it really pisses me off when people do this sort of thing, whats with these people today? looks like they need a good crack in the jaw!
but dont worry it will come back and haunt them, when they purchase there first nice car!IDIOTS, right im off to calm down..........

Are your NCB protected? if yes might aswell claim, but your premium might go up, why not check for online quotes to see what the difference is between a quote with no claims and a quote with a bodywork claim. This will give you an idea of the damage to your premium.
300 will definately be cheaper than the respray quote.0 -
Sorry to see the reason of your post.
Beware claiming for this - even with protected bonus, in case you were inlucky to have another, heavy claim later.
Chances are the bill will be around 3500ish - you'll only be £200 worse of, in real terms, which MAY be around double, the amount, the premium increases, next year.
So, if I've explained myself clearly, you'll be level pegging, in next 2 years premiums - assuming no further claims.
What you WILL need to do, is find out the BMW Approved repairer, to do the work. Chances are, it'll be contracted out, by the dealer, unless they're really big.
That way you protect paintwork warranty issues.

Still think it would be a good idea to get a couple of online quotes with and without the malicious damage/accidental damage claim included in the quote then you will know for sure what effect it will have on your premium.
Check if naming the cause makes a difference malcious damage or accidental damage.0 -
to be honest i will leave it as it is. get a silver colour wax from halfords to help hide the scratch. if it is down to bare metal then get it treated.
i can guarantee that once you have had it rersprayed some brainless amoeba will scratch it again. happened to a friend of mine
when my car got scratched i left it as it is, just waxed over it. got one of those nail brush paint from halfords to fill in deep scratches. few months down the line it was scratched again.
if i ever catch that person i will run his scratching tool across his belly .......Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Sadly there are some lowlife out there who go out of their way to damage anything that looks nice. I don't worry any more; I just bought a car that I don't worry about.
Colour matching wax is a good idea, it might hide the scratch well enough.Happy chappy0 -
mind you if you have the funds buy a cheap car for around say £1500 to be used for shopping etc. if it isn't scratches then its door or trolley dents on the door. also the lowlife will not want to dirty their tools on a bangerProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

Chips Away always come highly recommended http://www.chipsaway.co.uk/repair/index.asp and most car dealers use them !!
Check out your Yellow Pages for your local franchise operator, normally about £80 a panel but with yours being a few panels may well be cheaper0 -
Thanks everyone for the advise. I have tried to cover it up with turtle colour match with chipstick, but not very successful. I am planning to leave it now and probably claim for it towards the end of the insurance (who knows, there might be more of these coming my way). Especially since someone had previously scuffed my back bonnet when parked and had no courtesy to leave a message.0
