Hoping that i'm been really blind and missing something simple, but i can't get onto the internet via my wireless router.
Have a Phillips router (model snb5600 if it helps)
Smart ax mt882 modem with talktalk.
When i hook it all up, i can connect to my wireless network, but it will only allow local, not internet, come anybody help..?

Is your laptop DCHP enabled?
Could you to go Start>Run and then type cmd and press Ok.
When the black box comes up onscreen, type in ipconfig and then press return/enter.
If you could post up the full results, that would be a help!“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -
Sounds like the wireless router has no connection to the internet. Have you tried turning your modem off and back on when you connected it to your wireless router? This is something you would normally have to do if you're a cable (e.g. Virgin Media) user0

i can connect fine through ethernet cable, via laptop and desktop, both running XP.
Have tried to reset both modem and router to no avail, always same response, can connect to wireless network, but limited to that, no access. same story if i try to connect using a wii, a ds and an archos 605 wifi. I am sure that somewhere along the lines the settings have been messed up, as initially it was working allbeit with no security. The problems have only started since putting a password onto it.0 -
Where has the OP indicated that he/she is using a laptop?
Where has he/she even indicated that he/she is using a Windows computer?
(Assumptions, prejudice... )
Had a bad day in the office Leopard?
Calm it down - We all cant be quite as good as you..but we are trying!“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -
Have you tried other wireless security methods such as WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK. For the Wii, you would need TKIP if you pick those encryption methods.0

The problems have only started since putting a password onto it.
Your limited connection is due to incorrect encryption settings. Get a long random passphrase from here. Save it to a notepad file and copy & paste it into the routers WPA-PSK field. Then copy & paste it into any device that you wish to connect. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
You need to reset the router properly I think. The manual states that you hold for 5 secs. It needs to be held for 25 secs.
To reset the router, you must insert something thin like a paperclip in to the small hole on the bottom of the router and the lights will flash and the router resets itself. Do this for 25 secs and that should give it a full reset.“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0 -
To start again from the beginning and set it up properly...
OP has tried resetting it before, but hasnt done it the correct way - hence my response....
It is only the wireless encryption that need configuring correctly. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
