How long first battery charge for mobile?

Have just bought a replacement battery for my Nokia off ebay.
The seller claims it's 'new' but - that's just a claim!
How long would people suggest I give it for its first charge?

There's no simple answer - charge time depends on type (LiIon, LiPol, NiMh, etc), capacity, max charge rate that the charger can supply, temperature, how deeply it was previously discharged, etc.
If it's a modern Nokia it will turn off when it thinks the battery is charged.
With the last new (OEM) phone battery that I bought, I found that the talk time was very poor for the first couple of charges, but then got better quite quickly.0 -
usual rule of thumb is leave it plugged in for 24 hrs...and the first few use sessions run it quite low before recharging...this should allow the cells to achieve their best efficiency pretty quickly...
p.s. I've just got a new battery for my LGU880....it's not OEM, and now the battery will only charge if the phone is switched off...others will only charge if the phone is switched on, so watch for these sort of things also......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

While the advice above is correct for old style NiMH and NiCAD batteries it is entirely wrong for LiIon and LiPo batteries.
First off you cannot trickle charge a LiPo or Lion battery in the same way - over charging these batteries is extremely dangerous and can cause fires. Consequently there are protection circuits in your phone, once the battery is charged that's it - the electricity is cut off completely so as to prevent overcharge. Once the phone says the battery is charged you're ready to go.
Secondly, dont run down Lion or Lipo batteries too far, over discharging can reduce the life of the battery or in extreme cases can ruin it completely. Its best not to let the battery get more than 70% discharged.0 -
The phone in question is a venerable old 3310.
Does this affect opinion?0 -
scouce - thanks for the clarification....I was assuming old as a phone battery should last a fair few years before needing to be replaced

Alan - I still have one of those somewhere in a drawer !! best check the composition of your replacement battery and treat accordingly...........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
