Wooden flooring or carpets??

I'd say pull up a bit or carpet in the corner of the room (it should be easy enough to relay after) and check on the quality of the boards below. If they look in good condition, chances are that they should be OK, but this often depends on how good plumbers & leccys have been over the years to them).
Then hire a sanding machine for the w/end (I did the same amount of rooms as you in one w/end) cost around £40 from what I remember (from Speedyhire) + sanding sheets & then of course varnish and sealer (if needed).
In a period property much better than laminate. I think carpets for bedrooms etc and wooden floors for downstairs. But as somebody has mentioned before it depnds on the age group looking around.
