DVD set up help please?

Appeal to all you clever techies. my neighbour originally set this up for me and it used to work OK until a mate tried to set up the video to tape too....

DVD is set up and it does come on to record but when I go to play DVD's it says they are blank although sometimes if I keep trying I do find something on there?
I have tried recording there and then and it does record and it is on the DVD.
On watching TV through the DVD I can switch through Ext 1 or EXT 2? so wonder if thats why it is not taping?
It is set up through sky box and I have a video attached but video will not tape and will only play tapes?
I did have the guide to setting it up from WHICH and put it somewhere safe???

So? Can someone please give me step by step instructions on how to set up my DVD recorder so it through sky box but also have video set up so it tapes as well just in time to tape all the Christmas stuff....

Thank you in anticipation..........

  • We'll need the model number of your recorder, and a simple explanation of which wires are attached to what...
  • Oh blimey the model number is Crown 300 but not sure what is attached to what unless I take it all out which is probably better and start again with my instructions so I know where everything is!

I will have a go myself and see if I can do it, if not at least I will know where the leads are and connected to what!!!

Thanks for asking will probably be in touch:beer:
  • Ask your neighbour to come round and sort it out. The ideal would be to bin the VHS recorder, keeping the system simple, but if you have an older, none scart TV, you may be using the vhs as a digital>analogue converter, passing the DVD source through the VHS's AV1/AV2 (scart) and exiting as RF for the TV. I set a system like this up for my parents a few years ago, and it's a nightmare if anything gets changed!
do you have sky or freeview? does the tv aeriel pop into the back of the DVD (recorder?), VHS or telly, or something else? I'm confusing myself now... so cheerio
