I'd love to know how apple work out their exchange rates.

    Best wishes, Neil

that would be the unfavourable exchange rate, import duty & VAT.... it almost makes it worth flying to US to receive an el cheapo amazon.com/apple store order (no sales tax on internet orders afaik).

just curious how you get the sale price to come up?

i tried clicking on the learn more link but it tells me the session has timed out so i have to go back to the main page. then i put in mac mini 1.25ghz and this machine comes up but at full price

we desperately need to replace our 2nd computer and dh has been wanting to get a mac for years... this is a way we could manage both so if you could let me know how to get that price i'd be ever so appreciative! dh's birthday is coming up on the 24th, this sure would be a nice 'extra' for him ;)

The refurb store is here : http://promo.euro.apple.com/promo/refurb/uk/ and the prices are available now. Limited quantities though. And remember, the Mac Mini does NOT come with a keyboard, mouse or monitor, so those need to be added in. It will work with any monitor (has a DVI output and also a converter for standard d-sub VGA to work with older monitors. Any USB keyboard and mouse will work.

and it's wednesday too, i see the store only opens on wednesdays from 10:00-24:00

i have enough time to run this by dh

the monitor and key board etc not a problem we still have our less ancient machine (actually have 3 computers since we finally upgraded recently to a sexy dual core machine phwoar!!!)

dd has the most ancient machine (which runs better than the less ancient one) i need a middle machine for myself when dh is doing his uni work from home as i work based from home

this should do us ok i think

do you know anything about how hard it is to network a mac to a pc?

Networking a Mac to a PC is reasonably straightforward. Need to be in the same domain or workgroup, then enable sharing on the Mac and it tells you when to type into Windows Explorer to connect to it.
I used http://macs.about.com/cs/tipstutorials/a/xp_osx_sharing.htm to learn, but this doesn't mention the workgroup issue, in that they have to be in one with the same name. Also, you need to make sure that if you are connecting the Mac to Windows that the Windows account has a password set as otherwise it will simply refuse.

Axtually, had a look and http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=54704 seems very detailed.

thanks again, you've been really helpful!

i'm waiting for dh's response to my email (he forgot to charge his mobile, AGAIN! )

i think he's in class right now but the store doesn't open til 10am anyway

anyway as long as he says ok i think i'll be buying this ;-)

    dh will be thrilled!

we were going to wait until his next grant cheque in april to get a £300-400 pc but i think this will please him more, meets our basic requirements (need something for accounting, internet access when he's on the sexy machine etc) it's cheaper and it's a MAC!

i even pointed out that since dd was losing interest in nursery and we got her down to 2 half sessions per week vs 5 half sessions we have saved in just one month what this computer costs, that should get his attention

    thanks again :T :T :T
