my wife is a childminder who currently has a a 2yo and a 5yo plus our 3 kids. we have been amazed at the way parents behave, like sending the kids to her when the parents are on holiday! pretending that a child is "just alittle under the weather" whey they have D&V. Then having absolutly no consideration when my wife is ill yet they send the kids to her when they themselves are ill...most parents dont see this as a job, just an convenience.. in fact an inconvenience, often on less than minimum wage!
we have seen this with 3 sets of "professional" parents. They would be better off with a dog!
My wife is a caring loving childminder because it fits in with our kids and she is still at home for them. And her charges often dont want to go home with mummy and daddy!
Nurseries are a mystery to me..why would you want to dump your baby when only months old??? Is a career really worth that?
Ask a teacher if they can spot the difference between a nursery child, a childminders child or a parented child.
Do your kids a favour, stay at home and love them!
Your post has me absolutely incensed. Who on EARTH do you think you are to charge parents for a service and mock and judge them behind their backs? If I used a CM who had views like this I would remove my child AND report her to OFSTED because it does not sound like you have the child's best interests at heart, just your own smugness. Who are you to judge other people's choices?
I did NOT DUMP my child - how dare you! I took extended maternity leave for as long as we could manage without my wage and spent weeks finding a nursery, and then a further 6 WEEKS settling him in before I returned to work - so don't you use the word dump - it's nasty.
It's not a pop at skint_spice - so is it a pop at me? Who do you think you are? Smug, self-righteous moron is what you sound like.whatdoidonow wrote: »look its not a pop at you as you try to spend more time with your child.
Indeed there are good childminders, but theres the chance you take as my wife would tell you because she knows some terrible ones that have glowing osftead reports.
Studies have also shown,They are often more agressive and insecure. And (child of the new century) that nursery kids are up to 20% behind when it comes to school work, one of my wifes charges said infront of his parents that he hated nursery, he was bullied and shouted at they never knew! Just the smiling faces when they were dropped off.
My own daughter from a previous marriage said she hated the wait until she was picked up at 5.45 so lesson learned.
Like I said, not a pop at you, I just hope others read this and think before going for 5 days a week.
Show me these studies!! Please!! Am dying to see them. My teacher friend says that the nursery/CM kids tend to be more sociable. Less clingy. More emotionally mature. But I take this with a pinch of salt!
I don't judge SAHMs and think they do a bloody hard job and deserve nothing but respect for it. But you know what, so do I. I work 3 days a week to give my son a better quality of life, and because I have a work ethic, and actually, not that it's any of YOUR business I work because I am happier working, so stick that in your pipe.0 -
I would agree with Daph and Daph's teacher friend. I work with 4 and 5 year olds, and can spot the ones who havent been to nursery/CM a mile off. Far less social skills, more clingy, often unable/unwilling to share....... the list goes on. I also see how children interact with their childminders, and listen to them talk about them with so much affection throughout the day. Hardly a sign that the children dont enjoy going, in my opinion.
No-one should be made to feel guilty about going to work. For some it's a choice, but for many, there is no choice. They have to work to provide for their families.
Whatdoidonow, you should be ashamed of yourself for making working mums feel the way you have through your comments. Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

Ashamed to have provided a loving caring home for my kids?
No
Saddened that we now have another generation who dont know what a real mother is.
I know you wont agree with this because it has become the norm for many.
Judging parents?, I call it observation....and the truth hurts sometimes, i.e. christmas concert finished at 2.30pm parents still have CM take kids because they have "things to do!!"
Would you take a few days off work if your CM was ill?
Regarding the term "charges", a CM is in Charge of them, they are not pupils or students.
Although recent requirements now expect CM's to have all kinds of policies in place all for £3.50 PH, they are not teachers!
Lets leave it here eh?
Remember free speech?Life is about appreciating what you have got, not getting what you want.:j

...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Hang on - if whatdowedonow is of such an opinion why the bloody hell is his wife a childminder....Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

While I would be the first to stand up for free speech I think the reason we have all reacted so strongly is that the OP had already decided for her own reasons that she had to work and we were discussing our experiences and trying to help her. Your postings have been very negative about any alternative to mum based childcare (obviously fathers are allowed to work:rolleyes: ) and frankly not very useful.Mortgage OP 2025 £7050/7000Mortgage OP 2024 £7700/7000
