i know all the wooden ones say that they are compatible, but they're not. ikea's bridges are really low, so only fit ikea trains. tesco engines seem too big to fit under some brio tunnels too. every time my son is on a train, he asks everyone in the carriage if the train is going to fit through the tunnel. EVERY TIME. :o
  • I'd say Tescos too.... completely compatible with Brio and it's always in the sales in the summer and winter. We started with a Brio set which was an absolute bargain from John Lewis and then just bought one engine, or one box of track etc from tesco whenever we went. You're only adding a pound or a couple of pounds to the shop, but after a few months you've got a pretty impressive train set! :)

I've also seen a set in Wilkinsons which is a train set ( lots of pieces) and a table to play with it on..... can't quite remember the price though! I think it was fairly cheap!

some other online shops worth looking at....
    Mail Order Express
    Trainworld.co.uk
    Tuliptoys
    ToysRus

another idea is Costco often do wooden train sets just after the summer... they've just done a 100piece Thomas the tank set with a wooden storage box which was reduced from £89 to £35.... but do other brands every now and again...

but I'd say Tesco are the best! :D
