Under £5k was my last big one - my next one will be reaching £2.5k in savings so that I can hopefully pay off the DCA in some sort of deal whereby they agree to never speak to me again, send me Christmas cards, babysit for me, that sort of thing..

No matter how small, the milestones really do make a difference. I have done really well the last few months and surprised myself and it does spur you on. I note down everything I spend and think about everything I buy more so than ever.

Looking forward to about March when the credit card, overdraft and holiday fund debt will go. The ifc eye surgery debt is included in my sig but to me it's priceless. When that's gone its Baby 29's saving milestone time!

Just remember not to set your next milestone too far out of reach - if something seems unachievable, or a long way off, we are more likely to feel dejected and unmotivated, and we get that "wading through treacle" feeling.

So, even if your next milestone is to get to the next £100 or next £1000 figure, that is good enough!

    HI Rammstein and others,

I've always been very private about my milestones - probably because I fear not achieving them.
When I first started my milestones were about just taking lunches in to work and managing a week of sticking to a mealplan (which I still struggle to do!).

I hit a milestone the other day - I have moved my debt to sub £15000 or just over 18% of my debt. I didn't know if I'd get there or when or even how but slowly I am learning. I've joined the £20k by Dec 2009. Based on this I need to get rid of about £5000 debt per quarter.

    My next milestones are:
    20% paid off
    25% paid off
To finish paying off at least two credit cards by April and not having to BT the balance to yet another 0% deal!

Small steps make massive strides over time.
