Experian have not responded to my query within 28 days!

Options
Experian... that company we all love to hate.

Firstly, I applied for a mortgage with Nationwide, had the usual Experian credit check through them, and specifically remember checking every piece of paper with a fine tooth comb and checking (or leaving blank, depending on what was required) the options for "do not pass my information on to any companies" (blah blah).

I'm very particular about my information not being used, especially as I was only living in a temporary rented place and didn't use the address for anything other than my credit card and bank account. Neither of those disclose my information as I requested that from day one (and have never received any sales/marketing calls before).

Imagine my surprise when I started receiving sales calls about 4 weeks after applying for my mortgage! I asked one salesperson where the information came from, and was told that Experian had supplied them with the information. (I've registered my mobile with the TPS and that was the only number I gave Nationwide!).

I can only deduce that Nationwide's credit check with Experian didn't take into account my request for information withholding.

I emailed Experian to ask them what their policy was, and to ask for my details to be removed as I'd requested that they never be passed on in the first place! I received the customary Experian auto response back, with a "we legally have 28 days to respond, we will try to within 7 working days". That was the end of November.

I've since followed it up twice with emails quoting my reference number and explaining that they are now out of their 28day 'legal' obligation to respond, and still nothing!

Has anyone any ideas? Any contact addresses? Or should I just let this one lie?

TIA

I believe they were on Radio 4 getting told off for not responding to customers, and not correcting mistakes quickly enough.

You could write them again mentioning that you will report them to the information commissioner.
