Why do they want to replace existing timer/thermostat?

I am having a new boiler fitted under the government-backed WarmFront scheme. I am very happy about this.

I am less happy that they will be replacing my existing timer/thermostat with a thermostat in one room and the timer in another room!

Surely, it is better to have the timer/thermostat in one unit? When it is in one unit it can be programmed to provide different temperatures at different times of the day!!!

you could ask the guys doing the install to maybe fit you a programmer/stat instead, theyre quite cheap.or pay them a bit extra to fit it for you.

is the boiler free or at a reduced rate?

i would love a new efficient boiler but cant afford it, mines 20 years old.

i work full time and dont get any benefits so i guess im not entitled to any grants etc?
  • Depends what kind of thermostat it is. A programmable stat will allow you to set different temperatures at time slots and on each day of the week.

A timer is still useful to control other parts of the system.

Unfortunately, they can only fit what WarmFront say they can fit!

Assuming all the work comes within the £2,700 grant then there is no more to pay. My new boiler and loft insulation comes within the limit. WarmFront fit very good boilers - mine is made by Worcester.

Yes, this boiler is over 90% efficient. The old boiler (9 years old) is just under 77% efficient. Older lightweight boilers may be 65% efficient; older heavyweight boilers are around 55% efficient! Look here for the efficiency tables:

If you have some kind of disability benefit you can qualify irrespective of income:
