i was told by another trade kitchen company that we can expect big discounts in february.

I'm after a howdens kitchen, they tried to rush me into buying pre-VAT cut and prob to meet there end of month sales targets.

Rang them today and no offer of doing it cheaper, gonna sit and wait, no rush for me really.
  • Thanks, yes we are not in a rush, would prefer sooner than later but depends on any discounts!!

What ever hapened to howdens trade only policy, as everyone can get a kitchen. are they supposed to retail ?
  • no it is trade only, our builder is buying it to get the discounts.

You should be able to barter with them anyway. The best thing to do would be to ask when they are having a trade day next.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

I have just bought the Malvern kitchen range from Howdens. Its, not real oak,as much as I love real wood could,nt afford it.Asked the man at Howdens what was the cheaper end of the range,he showed me a few doors ,saying even though he could,nt discuss prices he could say what was cheaper.
Had a planner round with my builder present,no hard sell at all,in fact no pressure at all,he was in and out as I roughly knew what I wanted as kitchen 2.5 metres by 3.5 metres so not big. Some people say to ask for everything for price and just deduct after what is too expensive or not necessary. It did help seeing the design on CADCAM,altered a few bits.
I did,nt really as I just wanted a very practical basic refit, just a bit better organised.
One thing I did specifically want is soft close hinges, that was about £250.00,so deduct that if not required from price I have included.
I did,nt overly haggle as I was just very upfront and said I was on a tight budget,if price was good I would go ahead.
    13 units(various sizes,corner units)
    doors
    2 x 3mtr worktops,
    soft close hinges
    fixing plates for worktops
    larder unit
    6 decorative ends
    60 cm black glass hob(unamed)
    black single oven (unamed)
T bar handles as didnt want the cage handles,so extra.
    2750 continuous plinth
    light pelmet
    decor cornice rail
custom fit panels for boxing in boiler unit x 2.
There is a 600mm drawer pack and 2 x wine racks included too.(items like that were dearer than Wickes flat pack)
    delivery =£1932.23P

I bought the sink and taps online as personal preferance but they quoted

    S/S Carron sink £65.00(single drainer)
    Mnonobloc tap chrome £75.00

Keeping my American style fridge/freezer as it,s newish
    Plus my own dishwasher.
washing machine in garage which I am happy with as kitchen quite small

All units came next day and prebuilt,18mm carcass.
I did roughly know every price of every unit from other places when I had quote,as in B and Q,homebase, focus, wickes, approached a couple of small kitchen companies but to be honest I am not at the stage of having a "luxury kitchen"as such so didn,t pursue them much.
The closest in price before January sales was Wickes flat packed and that was with Wickes sale on now.

Hope that has been some help.I don,t know if some people get kitchens a lot cheaper from Howdens,I was happy with price and found the service, help really good in a very laid back non pressurised selling way.I am a single mum and so get a bit edgy when people try hard sell and want to spend my money as such!!I don,t want to get carried away and found for me Howdens allowed me to go at my own pace and to see prices individually obviously via my builder.

Its worth remembering that Howden's sold MFI atleast a year ago.

When I bought my kitchen, I was told they only had a sale once a year, in October. Which I found accurate, as I had a bigger discount during that period, but I had to take delivery within the week.
