no its certainly not illegal.
But i agree with what your saying that its point of principle.
best thing for you to do, is forget about it now, enjoy xmas and NEVER go back in again for anything. Then the £1 they charged you will eventually disappear because your never going back!0 -
I had the same problem today when I was charged 50p for a first class stamp. I wasnt sure if I was overcharged at first cos its been a while since I wasnt aware of current prices. Apparently it is legal but they are breaking their agreed contract with the post office. However the Post Office are in my opinion a bunch of money grabbing so and so's who charge you the earth to pay certains bills over the counter. Seems everyone is out to rip you off these days.
I did some research and the only way of reporting this is to write to a freepost address in Edinburgh and I really CBA. I guess next time I want a stamp I will avoid that shop, find out the correct price and refuse to pay anymore.0 -

:rotfl:
When you refuse to pay the extra what do you thinks going to happen? They simply won't sell you the product.
Heaven forbid they want to make a profit like any other business;)
Personally I would be annoyed being charged more -- but i'm also annoyed when coffee goes up in price or I have to go to Tesco Express where they only stock the expensive products! But newsagents margins are very low so if its case of sell them for more or not sell them at all I would rather pay that little extra.
Although, do remember, this thread is about 3 years old.0 -
it is 3 years old this thread, but, where I live is a small very expensive convenience indian shop that sells stamps individually, and charges a few pence each more for them too. The post office is always queueing out of the door and across the street no matter what time you go.
Once I was charged in another shop fairly near by, 10p each stamp more, !! 10p!! each!! when I checked it later...I didnt at the time due to being in a hurry, however the next time I went in there I reallised that I had inadvertently left the shop without paying for a magazine which was still folded under my arm, so I guess you could say that it unintentionally cancelled out being ripped off with the stamps.:)
marleyboy - I fully agree with you!!0 -

I guess one could also say that you're a shoplifter!
If you don't agree with the prices a shop charges then vote with your feet and spend your money elsewhere. Don't use it as an excuse for your own criminal behaviour.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Just open an online account and print your own postage labels0

Ah! but the clue is in the word UNINTENTIONALLY.....0 -
What's the Edinburgh freepost address? Quite wound up by paying 49p for a stamp.0
-
Why do you want a freepost address?
Surely it's the police that you should be contacting as the shopkeeper obviously forced the 49p from you under threat of violence. (unless of course you willingly paid the asking price for the stamp).
Should I be upset because my local "corner shop" charges me more for a tin of dog food than it would cost me in Makro, despite this being the very place that he buys his stock from?0
