    For a good hairdresser...

    cut and blow dry= £35-45
    Straightenng= £5-8
Full head of colour= £30-60 pounds (not including cut and finish)
Full head highlights= £60 - 100 (not including cut and finish)
half head highlights= £40-60 (not including finish)
Long hair supplement= £10-20 (long hair being classed as past shoulders)

So your looking at £80 - £170 ish quid (remember you need to add on about 10% for a tip as well!)

If she has thick hair expect to pay more. Some salons make you have a treatment at the same time, which is an extra tenner. If its a full head of colour she will want it redoing every 4-8 weeks, highlights every 6-12 weeks.

If she is going to have it done on a regular basis, I would reccomend a student. I use a qualified student who is doing his level 3 now, and on saturday I paid £50 for a cut and blow dry, full head of highlights and low lights (3 colours), conditioning treatment, straightening, and the use of thinning scissors. I have long hair and it is very thick.

I had my hair done at a small local salon a couple of months ago, I got it trimmed and coloured (foils) and it cost £75

I bought a hair dye from boots for a fiver and i'm going to get it cut at the local college. I just can't afford to spend that amount of money every 6 weeks.

BUT it did look so nice after i'd had it done there, the colour and cut were the nicest i've ever had.

the only thing i'd say is that it sounds like the person wanting the haircut hasn't used this salon/hairdresser before. i wouldn't go in to a new hairdresser and let them loose on everything from colour to cut on a first visit....

how long it will look good depends on how much time/effort it will take to replicate the blow drying/finishing at home and how good the person is at doing it themselves. i've been on the receiving end of cuts which looked great in the salon but i just never managed to reproduce at home!

and permanent hair dye will never be permanent as your hair grows... depending on the natural colour and the dye, and how long roots get before you can't bear it, it's difficult to put too much of a timeframe on how long before it'll need re-doing....

i'd get a recommendation from someone and not go on price tbh, that's the most likely way to get something she'll be happy with.

Until a few weeks ago I could sit on my hair.

I paid £50 for highlights, wash, blowdry, trim and straighten. If I wanted to have it extra styled he never charged any more :)

Cost £72 in the end and she was very happy, so that'll do me.

    Thanks for all the replies

Why are you paying £6.95 for a skinhead when you could do it yourself - buy a kit for £10 - £15 and you can have a fresh haircut every week!

Hair all depends on where you are - DD and myself were £50 for two cut and blow dries (she is 10!) but when on holiday in a little village outside Lincoln, a cut and blow dry and a wet cut were £17 for both of us!

I think it's down to overheads, I bet the staff aren't paid any better!

eta, pardon the pun! ^ ^

My stylist... or should I say creative director charges £53 for a cut and blow dry... straightened for free. I get a 20% NHS discount tho. She is good tho and I'd pay whatever because we get on and I only have to give her a half baked idea about what I want and she just 'gets it' and does a good job. I've been going to her for 7 years now! Finding a good stylist is worth a lot.

Edit: I do my OHs hair for free with his clippers! He used to get charged £30 for it at the salon!

Oh, where did you go to get NHS discount?!
I made the mistake of going blond a few months back and whilst it looks fabulous, I'm struggling to keep up with the roots EVERY 5-6 weeks (i'm normally quite dark). Want to cut back on money to save up to start a family!

NHS discounts are for doctors, right?
i am coloring roots in local salon for 15£. I am very satisfied coz in the end you just want your roots to be colored fast and qualitatively. I get all this. My go to a different hairdresser for cutting hair. I go visit her at home, so she charges cheaper than at salon, it coast me 15£ as well
