Hi all,
I have just been given a hard drive from a mate, it's a HP MODEL GB0250C8045 but i think it is designed for a server. It fits in to my Desktop ok but i need a power cable as they is no spare in my desktop.
I was wondering though, because it's for a server will it work ok in my desktop (dell) is there any difference between a server hard drive and a desktop hard drive ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Anybody help ?
Got it set up now but my desktop is not reconising the hard drive.0 -
If the power connector and interface is the same as within your machine, then there will be no problem.
"Not recognising" is a rather vague diagnosis.
1) Does it show in My Computer?
2) Does it show in Device Manager?
3) Does it show in Disk Management?
2 and 3 can both be check by right-clicking the My Computer icon and choosing Manage.2.66GHz Intel i7 920, Socket 1366 (B) Nehalem

if it is an IDE drive have you set the jumper to slave (if on the same channel (cable) as the other HDD
Have you checked that the drive is detected in the BIOS?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
The problem may be related to NCQ, which the controller in the server probably supported and your PC probably doesn't.
It may be worth looking up the product on HP's support website to see if they publish any documentation and/or utilities that you could use to configure it.0 -
1) Does it show in My Computer? No show in my computer
2) Does it show in Device Manager? Yes it is showing, and says This device is working properly.
3) Does it show in Disk Management? Yes i think so, disc 0 is my C drive and disc 1 is a un-named device that lookes like the hard drive i have just fitted. It says healthy (EIS Configaration)0 -

Is there a drive letter assigned to the unnamed device? If not, right-click, assign drive letter (any you want) and then look in My Computer.2.66GHz Intel i7 920, Socket 1366 (B) Nehalem

I think it has merged with my C drive if that makes sense, just checked my free space on my C drive and it had more or less trebled in free space so im presuming things are working fine now.
I was expecting it to show as a separate drive when fitting it but i was wrong i think.

When i right click it just says help, i get a menu with my C drive to change but not the unnamed drive0 -
have you set up RAID in the BIOS? I can't think of any sensible way that the freespace on C would increase, thinking about it, even RAID is a daft suggestion as a causeUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Very odd, and hard to understand entirely without seeing the machine.
Could you take a few screenshots please?
