ccleaner is also usefull to stop programmes from auto running on windows start up.
Every developer seems to think you want their software idle in your tray:mad:0 -
The old computer I’m using is still relentlessly slow although I've noticed a slight difference. Maybe you techie guys can advise how to resolve this problem? Can't wait 'til my new laptop arrives. The only thing is Dell have cocked up the delivery date so I'm having to wait longer for it to arrive due to their wonderful automated phone service for deliveries.
I was expecting the laptop to arrive today.0 -
Lugh_Chronain... have you tried any antimalware scanners?
If not, download and install malwarebytes and do a quick scan, removing / repairing anything it suggests.
Perhaps you are infested with the dreaded lurgy.Russia is HERE0 -
You could be right. I've got threatfire and avast installed already, I thought one of these is suppose to prevent what you've suggested. Saying that though, I guess all this lurgy stuff was on my computer before I installed any of the above. I guess you know what you're talking about as I haven't really got a clue to be honest.
I did ask about malwarebytes a while ago and a few people on here recommended I install threatfire and avast instead.
Saying that though it [the computer] does seem a bit quicker tonight.0 -

see "startup" tab
but I agree MS don't help but not putting it on the menu anywhere - unless I've missed it
So use RUN from menu, then enter MSCONFIG0 -
I think what I said last night was a fluke. The computer I’m using here is more than relentlessly slow today, I’ve been doing stuff that should at least take half an hour and has taken me maybe an hour and a half to complete.
Well hopefully my new laptop should be arriving tomorrow with any luck. The only thing is I’m working night shifts at the moment and will most probably have to wait up for it to arrive as they say they will be delivering it between 12pm and 6pm, I finish work at 7am so won’t be getting much sleep tomorrow if any.0
