SKY+ / HD interchangeable?

Hi,

I currently have Sky+ with a standard Amstrad Sky+ box.

Could I buy a secondhand Sky HD box, hook up the dish feeds, put in my smart card and call Sky to activate in my new box... so that I could just use the HD box as if it was a Sky+ box?

Then if I decided I wanted to add HD I could call Sky and add the subscription and then just be able to start using the HD channels?

In other words is a Sky HD box basically the same as a Sky+ box but with hardware to output an HD TV signal?

Thank you.

    Yes this will work.

I bought a HD box from ebay, installed myself, one phone call to sky and subscription was moved over to the HD box. I dont susbscribe to HD channels, I just get the free BBC and C4.

Just as I hoped. Many thanks!
  • Sorry to steal the thread.

I have an original sky box and and a sky+ box multiroom subscription.

If i buy another sky + box can i simply replace the original sky box with the new sky + box?

Yes you could, but you have to remember that the Sky+ box uses 2 feeds from the dish to allow recording of 2 different channels. If you don't supply another feed to the new Sky+ box, you could only record what you're watching.
    Dave.
  • Ah i see..... so i would have to get someone to install this extra feed for me then? Do you know how much roughly this is likely to cost?

Would it work out cheaper than £210 which is what Sky are currently charging for box plus install

    Thanks

If you have a dish feeding a Sky box (1 feed) and a Sky+ box (2 feeds) presumably you have at least a quad (4 feed) LNB on your dish? in which case you just need a second cable alongside the 1st one from the spare feed on the dish to the Sky box (when its swapped for a Sky+ box!) shouldn't cost much or DIY.
