No ... but then I do live in Bangor:rotfl:
That said, I regularly see / hear planes over my house heading for the international but I can't say it bothers me.
I say, "Bring on the new runway" and some cheaper flights
Just curious, how long have you lived near the airport ?0 -
3 years , issue only arisen since Ryanair began using that airport0

I don't think there is anyone in south or east Belfast who isn't affected to some degree, not exactly by taking off and landing but by flights coming in and leaving low over the city. I know if I'm outside and on the phone I have to step back in if there's a flight going overhead (south belfast). I wouldn't be too keen on the extra runway but more than anything I would strongly resist any extension to flying hours. As it is, there are often flights coming in around 10.30/11 even though the last official flight in is around 9 as far as I know. If the hours extend, then there'll be flights till after midnight. The 6.45 flight normally wakens me up (although I don't object to this, I like to be up around then anyway).
But I am a total hypocrite because I do really appreciate the handiness of the airport when I need to fly

can't see how ryanair will have made much difference to you, the BMI heathrow plane has been making as much noise if not more for years,
suppose it depends on the luck of the draw weather wise as to whether you get the planes over the city or over Holywood though..............Norn Iron Club Member #64

Nope.....not one bit....I am prepared to put up with it, every plane load of people in and out is to the greater benefit of the region!
PS I am hacked off though with every teenage prats motorcycle and boom type exhausts on their modified cars!!0 -
Having lived under the flight path for the last 2 years, I finally had enough and moved house recently. BMI was bad enough, but the Ryanair flights seemed even louder. It may be just my perception, but the 6.30 Stansted flight woke me just about every day.
Much as I like the convenience of the airport, it really isn't suitable for higher volumes of traffic. The International airport could do with a good makeover and the road infrastructure should be upgraded too. A rail link would be even better, especially considering how close the Antrim line runs already.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -
apparently ryanair have different engine types and it is noticeable that their flights are noiser. I didn't notice a problem with being on the phone outdoors until a couple of years ago so I guess it's true. Though I haven't exactly done an experiment on it.
And BC is right, it is high time there was a decent rail link to the international, this would sort out a lot of problems...0 -
I have got really annoyed recently with being woken up by the 6.30/6.45 flights out of city airport. It has definately gotten worse, I have lived in the same house for 9 years (in Rosetta) and it's only over the last 6 months or so that the planes have worken me up regularly. Friday mornings are particularly bad.
At 6am in the morning it only takes 30 mins to get to the international airport from Belfast so it is no big deal flying from there if you need to get away early, I've done it often. I would have thought it fairly reasonable to expect that the first flight should not be allowed to leave city airport until after 7.30/8am given that so many people are being affected by the early morning noise.0
