Problems with Sky Help Please

Options
Hi

I am having problems with my sky I can view some channels but can't view others get - No Satellite Signal Received, then an hour later I can get the channels on and a few others go off, when I wiggle the scart lead it sometimes comes on (so I changed all the scart leads for new ones) but it still happens. The box is about 4 years old and Sky want a call out fee £40 just to come out, can you buy a new sky box from anywhere, sorry i am a bit vague on this but I am not tech minded when it comes to Sky.

Any advice or help greatly appreciated

I'd first check that the lead from the dish has'nt come loose where it connects to the digibox. If it is tighten it up.
Next check the signal strength and quality, go into the services menu, coose system setup then signal strength. Both the bars should be more than half way up the scale.

You could wiggle the RF lead and see if anything changes.

If this fails then chances are its the LNB( The module that is on the end of the stalk on the dish), and if your not a techie you will need the Sky man to change it, BTW if you can get the Sky man out for only £40 I'd do it

I've had Sky engineers out 4 times, and never paid a penny. If you sound insistent enough that you already pay enough in subscriptions, and don't see why you pay for repairs to their equipment. They will offer you a free callout.

The trick is to insist on being connected to the cancelations department. These are the only people that can cancel the callout charge. They will go through the process of cancelling. They will ask you why you are cancelling. If you say that you pay enough already, and don't see why you should pay extra to have their equipment fixed to receive the service (you must sound convincing). They will eventually say something like, because you are such a good customer, if we offer the repair for nothing would you carry on the service? This is when you 'change your mind' about cancelling.

This has worked every time for us. I've never paid for an engineer to come out and replace/fix equipment. This included one call with a 'specialist' engineer, who was booked out to our place for a day and changed every component of the setup (dish/LNB/cables/two boxes).

I had a very similar sounding problem. Mine turned out to be the box overheating. Is your box running very hot. It may need more ventillation.
