sky complaint, not even a customer!

Options
Hello,

I am seeking some advice on how to deal with the following problem:

We bought our house 2 years ago, and the previous owners had a sky subscription, in which they didn't pay their final bills. We have been receiving sky bills (still in previous owners name), and every time I did a 'return to sender' on the letters. After about 6 months we then started getting debt collectors letters, not addressed to the previous owners, but to the 'home owner', with various threats, each time I had to call the agency. I have called sky at least 6 times, each time they promised to deal with it, until the last time, which they said the only way was to write a letter. Which we did last month, only to get a written reply the other day which stated 'As you have not returned any of the previous bills, we will continue to send them to this address until they are paid'.

I was absolutely gobsmacked  . I have wasted so much time and money dealing with Sky's problems, and the ironic thing is that I have received letters addressed to me (yes same address) trying to get me to sign up!

I guess I just wanted to confirm which body it is, that I need to complain too, we don't want any 'heavy's' coming around.

cheers

  • Hi, can't help with who to complain to but I would just ignore any letters from them as well as any addressed to the Home Owner. In my opinion, if a letter is for you then they will know your name.

Similarly, don't worry about any debt collectors turning up - they won't be able to do anything anyway.

Do the neighbours or estate agents have a forwarding address for the previous owners? You could give that to Sky?
  • cheers for your response. Unfortunately not... the previous owners were divorced and it's a different name than on the property!

The CEO is Jeremy Darroch, and here's his details:

I'd make sure you send it recorded delivery, and also write in the letter that you are sending a copy to trading standards, and expect a full response from him.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

send the letters back attahced to a phone book - they will then have to pay postage for the entire lot

I personally would give up wasting my ink and time, tell them straight "as its NOT my problem who pays the bill, each letter will be binned accordingly."

if that worked, it's a brilliant idea.

Check that the previous occupants' details are removed from the electoral register (google 'electoral roll' or 'electoral register' and do it online - it's really easy).
The last owners may still be listed as living in your house, which will give Sky a good reason for chasing the dept.
  • forward to vendor, if address known- or their solicitor? details should be on the purchase contract..?

failing that, return to sender with a rude message!

very lazy of sky / anyone to continue contacting an address, if they have been informed customer has left.
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • call the disconections department on 08442 410 623. option 5, option 3 then option 1 and take note of who you are speaking to and explain you want to speak to a manager. when you get through to a manager take their name, the team they are in and their reference number that way you are able to get back to them personally if you still have any more problems.

just had major problems with them for messing up my subscription and have ended up with a free sky plus box and £5 credit on my bill after everything.

    good luck
