What about some retro style sweeties from a corner shop. You can get the little mice, cola bottles, fish & chips, drumsticks maybe 10 or 20 od each of the smaller ones, a couple of the larger ones, maybe 1/2 of cola bottles. I'd love something like that, maybe spend £3 on the sweetis and find some packaging. Get a clear sheet of cellophane and put it into a cone and tie the top with some Xmassy ribbon. I think that shows some thought put into it.

I do remember I started a new job in London working for a model agency and I started October and they decided to do secret Santa, someone suggested £5, then £10 and in the end it was agreed to spend £50!!!!!!!! £50 on Secret Santa, I nearly fell over!!!!!!!! Luckily we was off to the states and the person buying for me (I said a big fat NO to Agent Provocatuer undies :shriek: ) got me £50 worth of US Dollars to spend on holiday. Hurrah, was not stuck with useless tat!
  • We are having a secret santa and I bought a set from tesco which was originally £6.00 now £3.91! It is their therapy spa range and it includes shower cream, body lotion and bath creme! it smells absolutely gorgeous (coconut/almond) and I have personally used it and it is defo quality! good luck:j
  • I think smellies and chocs are a bit of a cop out. Yes they are nice but if its secret santa, then push the boat out a bit. how about a christmas thong?? lol. Will be something to talk about. How many people actually think they will receive a fabulous gift for a fiver from a secret santa?...not many.

Or get her a box of beer from the supermarket!

i've mostly been given smellies in the past which are safe but boring. the best thing i've had as it looked liked someone had spent a little longer on getting it was a cashmillion scarf from M and S.
  • well at least u know smellies or chocs would get used! rather than wasting your money on a christmas thong as NOTLONGNOW suggested! better still give their £5.00 to charity, that has got to be better than that!
will you please let us know what u bought in the end? I am in suspense now......
  • Surely the whole point about a secret Santa is that you can get away with buying presets that you'd never be able to give usually. Get something that will be the talk of the office for the next six months. A box of chocolates is forgotten as soon as they are eaten.
  • Asda have some nice things on 2 for £8. I got a baileys mug with hot choc and baileys and a whisk inside, and a box with a wine glass, small wine and 3 ferrero rocher.
I also got a desk calendar off another site, like funny sayings to put on your desk in the office.
Cant decide which one to give now!!

  • I know what you are saying but I'd rather have something I can get use from rather than stick it in the cupboard or throw it away. I am in my mid thrities too, I think you get to a certain age and you just want something practical. Or made that is just me, LOL.

When I was under 25 it was nice to get something for a laugh now they just get stuck in the loft and I want something I can use. Especially now we have kids as the money all goes on them and it is nice to get something for me, not something tacky and nasty, however much it costs.

It was a SUGGESTION, an EXAMPLE...something to bring a little humour to the workplace...Bah humbug.

Asda do those "Born to Shop" mugs. I have one that says "I try to watch what I eat, but I'm not fast enough", and "Good Morning, Let the Stress Begin". etc etc. Can she use that at work? They are only £3 or so, so that and a nice little box of Twinings tea bags I think would be a lovely idea.
I can't stand Lush - all their smells give me a migraine. I got smellies last year and gave them away - can't have anything smelly! And totally unoriginal. It would be nice if someone actually thought about the person they are buying for....that's why I quite like the idea of the Born to Shop mugs coz you can normally find a saying that suits.
