ipod dilemma - would appreciate your thoughts

bit of a long one this one
ok, so i've got myself an 80gb ipod video at the moment and i've got about 5,700 songs on it.
it restores in itunes ok but it won't sync. i have to manually drag the music across to it.
if i try and add my "current" playlist that is about 100 tracks big, it will add it but occasionally give me an error saying that the hard drive can't be written to.
then, the ipod screen will just display the apple symbol and just start slowly flashing on and off, on and off - the backlight that is. i have to put it into disk mode and re-restore it.
if i try and use an application - be it itunes, winamp or my preferred favourite, floola, to edit some of the ID3 tags on it, i'll usually get an error and the database will be wiped out, showing zero songs, but still showing nearly 30gb used.
i have to copy the backup database back on to restore it.
now, day to day use it's actually pretty fine. i can put it on on the bus, listen to it and used it fully with no issues whatsoever.
my dilemma is that i'm just wondering ultimately if the hard drive is corrupted and it will just eventually die, and should i get rid of it now while it works, rather than be left with a door stop ?
i've got all my music backed up on DVD so i'm not too worried in that respect, but i just wondered if i'm being too fussy and if i should just accept that as long as i don't restore it and don't try editing the ID3 tags, it'll actually work fine ....

I think you should wipe the whole thing and start a fresh, something similar happened to mine and I just wiped it and slowly put all my music back on and it's been fine since.0

yeah i might do that - or i might stick it on ebay and see if i can make some money on it, and then put that towards a brand new classic model.
at least i shouldn't have any hassles with a new one - i've only ever had second hand ones.0
