Playstation 3 for Christmas

My lovely girlfriend is going to get me a PS3 for christmas but I have a few questions before she does.

Are they readily available or will there be a sell out before christmas?
What type should I get (they have different sizes I think , 60gig etc) and what are the benefits of each?
Are there any good deals available on them?
Is there anything else I should know??

Many Thanks
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.

  • They seem to be available everywhere at the moment with a variety of games thrown in. The versions I have seen are 80gb and appear to be standard.

Good deals, well they are all bobing around the 290'ish mark.

Anything else you should know - they make good blu ray players and the firmware is updatable.
  • Gameplay .com have some good offers on them at the moment. Just got one for son for Christmas.
  • Sadly there are a lot of differences due to timing of hardware changes, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3#Retail_configurations

i'll just point out that the 60gb models with ps2 game compatibility have been discontinued.

the 40gb and 80gb models are both the same except from the hdd sizes and i think that the 80gb has a dualshock 3. however sony do tell you how to upgrade the hard drive in the manual.

compared to the 60gb model the current ones don't have SACD playback, 4 usb ports (current ones have 2), ps2 backwards compatibility and memory card readers.

no the 80gb (& the 40gb/160gb) cant play ps2 games, but all ps3s can play ps1 games
  • You can still play PS2 games on your PC though, if you really have to :D

Do you need a memory card for the ps3, will the ones from the ps2 work or do I need to get one specific to the ps3.

Got ours from amazon, got one with a free movie, free hdmi cable, free remote, free game all for £283 + the ability to buy a further game for £10 and a blue ray movie for £7
    £2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

    Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz
  • The hard drive on PS3 handles game saves, no need for a memory unit
