Stolen Car - can I reclaim excess??
Hi guys,
I recently had my car stolen - I've been given the indication that I can some how reclaim my £150 car insurance excess back. Does anyone know if this is correct & if so who do I claim it from (Gov't?) ?
Any advice on how to go about this would be much appreciated.

In short, you can't. You can only claim the excess back in the event of it being a third party accident. You could claim against the person who stole it if they were ever caught but I'd forget it personally.0

Thanks - Did think it was a bit far fetched. They have caught someone but not convicted yet.
Insurance co. say they will take him to court for their fees & my excess but police say it's highly unlikely. Not surprised.0 -
You can request that he pays your excess and take him to court if you wish. But it's only worth doing if you know he has any money. Which is unlikely.0

This is interesting.....can you not get his wages or any benefits arrested?0

No. That can only be done for a fine. Yours is a civil suite. It could be done as costs but is only likely to be pennies a week (50p a week isn't uncommon).0
