Where to site a carbon monoxide alarm

Options
I have bought a carbon monoxide alarm as I have a gas central heating. It was a brand new system on August. But I still wanted to get an alarm.

Anyway where is best to place it. The combi boiler is sited in a cupboard at the bottom of the stairs near the front door.

I would say just outside the cupboard up above the door.

Thanks in advance.

I'm surprised your detector doesn't give you instructions on fitting and where best to site it.

The instruction manual for our carbon monoxide detectors states:

    WHERE TO INSTALL THE DETECTOR

To ensure that the most effective use is made of the unit, it is preferable to install the detector within 30cm or less from a ceiling. If the detector is installed in the same room as the appliance, it should be sited between 2 and 8m from the appliance.

WHERE NOT TO INSTALL THE DETECTOR

    a) Directly above an appliance

    b) In a cupboard or behind furniture, curtains or doors.

    c) Close to windows, doors or vents.

    d) In a bathroom or where the detector may be exposed to water splash or water condensation (eg steamy kettle in a kitchen)

    I hope that helps

    Kind Regards

    Niles,

Thanks not taken it out the packet yet :o assumed that it would tell you how to fit it but not really where to site it.

It sort of helps but I am still not 100% sure where to site it. Will have a chat with my neighbour as he is Corgi registered.

We have had a carbon monoxide detector now for a few years. It is backed by a 3-pin plug and is simply plugged into a socket in the hall (the usual height above the skirting board). We have the central heating system inspected by the Gas Board once a year and they have never commented on where it is, but having read the instructions supplied by Nile, near the floor would not seem to be the best place. Does anyone know for sure?
